Anne Hughes 93, of Park Hills passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at St Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood
She was born February 11, 1930 in Garfield, NJ to the late John and Mary Hornik, the last of 6 children. She grew up in Garfield, NJ and was a graduate of Garfield High School’s class of 1947.
As a member of a devout Catholic family Anne started singing in the church choir at the age of 5. The church immediately recognized Anne’ s gift of a beautiful voice and gave her all the solos. As Anne matured her beautiful voice followed her everywhere she went including the Cincinnati Opera, the Opera Chorus, the May Festival Chorus the Northern Kentucky Chorus and many churches in the area
Her eldest son Andrew became a lawyer and an accomplished pianist performing with the Cincinnati Symphony at the age of 16. Her daughter Anita became a ballet dancer and teacher and today is an interior designer. Anne’s youngest son. John became a professional musician serving as Associate Concertmaster of the Detroit Symphony for many years.
Anne will be laid to rest at East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton, NJ . A private ceremony will take place at the gravesite for immediate family members only. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Institute in the name of Anne or donate online to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund Curealz.org. Plans for a Memorial Service at a later date are being discussed.
