Joyce Mary Gausepohl (nee Hammer), 72, of Severn, MD, passed away on Monday, Jan 9, at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Columbia, MD. Born in Covington, KY, and beloved wife of 54 years to Nicholas Gausepohl, of Severn, MD. Joyce was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Lucille (Roberts) Hammer, and brother, Eddie Hammer. Joyce was beloved mother to daughters Jenny Duke of Severn, MD, and Judy (Carl) Harkleroad of Atlantic Beach, FL, and sons Greg (Claudia) Gausepohl of Ocean City, MD, and Dana (Heather Scully) Gausepohl of Washington, DC. She was cherished grandmother to Brian (Emmi), Billy (Yulanda), Adam and Kristin Duke; Carl (Jen), Karli and Zach Harkleroad; Nick and Lexi Gausepohl, and great-grandmother to Sam Harkleroad and Naomi Duke. Joyce was loving sister to Janet (Tom) Lahner and Darlene Bartlett, both of Florence, KY. She also had several nieces and nephews.
As a U.S. Navy family, Joyce, Nick and their children traveled the world and retired in Severn, MD, in 1980. She especially loved sharing stories about their time in Germany. She was known in the Severn area as a tenacious real estate agent, an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and a passionate dog lover. Her flower garden drew many admirers.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, Florence, KY. Entombment will follow burial at Mother of God Cemetery in Latonia, KY.
