Leslie Franklin McGlasson July 27, 1952 – February 6, 2017
On February 6, 2017 Les McGlasson left this earth to join his Heavenly Father. He passed away peacefully in his home in Hebron, Kentucky surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Jennifer (Howard) McGlasson; sons Dr. Matthew McGlasson (Margaux) and Dr. Patrick McGlasson (Bethany). He is also survived by his parents, Rodney and Jean McGlasson of Hebron as well as his brother, Lon McGlasson (Ginny). Les will always be known as “Dee” to his 7 wonderful grandchildren,whowerethelightofhislife:Evan,Lillian,Audrey,Charlotte,Isaac,Violet,andIan. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir.
After studying Horticulture at The University of Kentucky, Les returned home to work on the family farm. He farmed full-time for years and then enrolled in Northern Kentucky University where he earned his Master of Arts in Education. “Mr. McGlasson” was a beloved teacher whose legacy will live on through the greenhouses that he helped build for local schools as well as the love of learning that he instilled in thousands of elementary students who were lucky enough to have him. Outside of the classroom, Les coordinated and led countless classes of elementary students on adventures to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Institute at Tremont, where he also served as a resident instructor.
Les was always fascinated with photography, and the beautiful images that he captured of his family and friends will forever be cherished. His nature photographs were featured in official publications of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. When he wasn’t using his camera, Les could be found planting flowers, singing with the Northern Kentucky Symphony, hiking with his friends or family, or planning his next adventure.
Les McGlasson was many things to many people; Loving husband, Son, Father, Grandfather, Teacher, Farmer, Photographer, Hiker, Naturalist, Scientist, Mentor, Friend, Dee. He was a “Fearless Leader”, the founding member of the “Hebron Hairdressers”, the “Tomato Man”, as well as the creator of “The Breakfast Club – also known as “The Bad Husbands Club”.
Visitation for Les McGlasson will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Crestview Hills, Kentucky from 4pm to 7pm on Monday, February 13. Memorial service will begin at 7pm. The family asks that memorials be sent to one of the following:
