Dr. David Norman Menton, 83, of Petersburg, KY passed away from Covid Saturday, December 11, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY. He was born July 1, 1938 in Mankato, MN to the late Stanley and Nellie Menton. Dr. Menton received his undergraduate degree from Mankato State University. He held a Masters and PhD in biology from Brown University and served as an award-winning professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis for 34 years. Dr. Menton retired in 2000 as an Associate Professor Emeritus. He then served with Answers in Genesis as a speaker, writer, and researcher. He retired from Answers in Genesis in October 2021. His hobbies included being a professional magician and musician. His parents, his first wife, Marcia Menton, and granddaughter, Chloe Lange, preceded him in death. David is survived by his loving wife: Debbie Menton (nee: Humphries), his beloved daughters: Michelle (Douglas) Lange, and Lisa (Scott) Anderson, and his cherished grandchildren: Haiden, Garrett, and Audrey Lange, as well as several loving nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held for David on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 12 PM until 2 PM at Linnemann Funeral Home, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005. A service will be held immediately following at 2 PM at the Funeral Home. Following the services, David will be flown back to Mankato, MN to be laid to rest with his family. Dear friend, teacher and Mentor
Dr. Menton was a great Christian and teacher to young adults. He took the time to help my late, college student son, to think about creation versus evolution while also learning to use an electron microscope. His example was to note how a birds wing could only come into being via creation. By learning to use an EM, one could finally see that the spine of a birds feather had hundreds of tiny “fishhooks” that gripped all of the feathers together to allow the entire feather to act as a unit. This unit then acted as an airfoil, allowing for lift and glide. If the tiny hooks had not been created,by God, the bird could never fly and, thus, never survived . I have never forgotten his example. May he peacefully fest in God’s house……………George Tomazi
A wonderful teacher
I met Dr. Menton at the creation museum where he was giving a lecture series. Hearing him talk refilled my enthusiasm for creation science and for biology. I still remember how much fun it was to take an eyedropper of pond water and use a projector and microscope to display all the microorganisms hiding inside.
His loss is felt by all who knew him. God bless.

We were so fortunate to have Dr. Menton (Dave) join us for a few years to join our team teaching Gross Anatomy to first year medical students. He brought his abundant knowledge of histology to enrich our course, and was, quite simply, a marvelous teacher. He understood how to connect with students, and we have many wonderful memories of his terrifying magic tricks at the podium! I met Dave Menton in July 1970 when I started working in the Anatomy Dept. office. He was friendly, outgoing and very committed to his teaching duties. Several years later he came to my office one day and said – I want to ask Debbie out, and I’d like to take her somewhere nice…where do you think we should go? So one of my Menton memories is your first date. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I taught with Marcia and we joined Dave in mourning her death. DEbbie brought new happiness for him and we all liked her.
Dave was fun to be with and loved hi s daughters. We all enjoyed Dave’s wit and his amazing skill as a magician. So sorry to lose him.

30 years ago, we hiked the Grand Canyon together from rim to rim, my tent-mate. That was not the start nor end of the wonderful times together. David lives on in the many people he taught, presented to, encouraged, laughed with, and shared with.
