Gary Johnson, age 70 of Union, Kentucky passed away in his home on Sunday, May 1, 2022. He was born to the late Gerald and Rachel Johnson on July 24, 1951 in Dearborn, Michigan. Gary was a United States Army veteran having served in the Vietnam war. He received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University, then later received his masters from the University of Michigan. He was a huge Michigan football fan. He also enjoyed traveling and horse racing. Above all else, Gary loved spending time with his family.
Gary leaves behind his loving wife, Marti Johnson (nee. Otten), his children; Jody (Mike) Bowen, Matthew Johnson, Gerry (Jennifer) Johnson, and Cary (Kirk) Braun, grandchildren; Sydney, Kamryn, Bailey, Luke, Molly, Dylan, and Savannah, his sister, Diane (Gary) Atkins, his sister in law, Marilyn (Dave) Reibold, his nephews; David (Carmelle) Atkins, Jeff (Jessica) Demler, Jim (Jeni) Demler, and his beloved dog, Louee.
A visitation will be held for Gary on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Linnemann Funeral Homes in Erlanger, Kentucky from 11:00AM-1:00PM. A service will be held at 1:00PM following the visitation. A private burial will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, or to Old Friends Farm in Georgetown, Kentucky (oldfriendsequine.org).

Thinking of You
Marti, I wish so bad I could do something to bring your Gary back. My heart breaks for you and your family. I know you know this, but he made sure everyone knew how much he loved and adored you!!! Always referring to you as his beautiful wife. He lit up every time he spoke of you- which was sooo often. My heart breaks for you. Our team is completely distraught and heartbroken. Nothing seems right at work. Gary was such a leader, so wise, so amazing at his job, a great friend, someone that kept us all calm, someone you could always count on, just unlike anyone else I’ve ever known. Like a big brother that knows how to reel you in but won’t let anyone pick on you. I cant stop thinking about you and Looie. I Wish I could hug you both. Praying for you and please know that our team will never be the same and we all loved Gary! We spoke a few weeks ago as he was helping me with a work situation. One of the last things he texted to me was…. Relax, sell stuff, drink heavily, and bet on horses. Words I will keep with me always. Sending you all kinds of love and prayers Marti. ❤️ Shannon

We loved our time in South Florida with Gary and Marti. Gary was talented, witty, kind, and just plain old fun to be with – and definitely one of the good guys. We will miss him so much. Memories
Gary and I first met in 1956 when we were both entering kindergarten. His mom was the safety lady that watched over us on our way to school. Next was Edison Jr. High and then on to Edsel Ford High School. We were great friends there having the same interests in singing and drama. We also did plays at the Player’s guild. I remember most his sense of humor, the fact that he was a gentleman and his acting ability. It was always a treat to see him at our reunions and he looked so good and happy at our 50th. Our “group” had so much fun and I have such wonderful memories. It will be hard to Zoom with my thespian friends without him there. I will miss him. Prayers to the family.

My Deepest Sympathies
To Marti and Gary’s Family – My deepest sympathies are with you all now during this time of sorrow. Gary was a great friend that I knew for years. We actually met back in the late 1980’s when I lived in the Cleveland, OH area. Gary’s love for his family was his first priority. He also loved travel, as that is how we met, working in the travel industry. Horses were also a part of Gary’s life as he loved to go to the races, no matter where a horse was running Gary would try to be there. One my favorite memories is when I invited him to join my company at Churchill Downs for the pre-Derby races. He gave me tips on how to place bets, we had a wonderful evening. May you Rest In Peace, my friend and I will cherish our friendship forever.
