Lynda “Kay” Romes, 74, of Independence, formerly of Valley Station, KY passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
Kay was a banker at US Bank for 17 years. She remained in banking for many years, finally retiring from The Bank of Kentucky in 2014. She adored her puppies Samson and Delilah, but she embraced all animals. Kay simply loved her life. She loved to travel from the island of Hilton Head to the beaches of Vero onto the mountains of Gatlinburg with her family. Kay also cherished the time spent with her “girls.” She loved a good margarita and a close game of Mexican Train Dominoes, in which she would play into all hours of the night. Above all else, Kay’s grandson, Jake was her pride and joy. They were best buddies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Irene Ewing, and sisters, Sandy Williams and June Darling.
Kay is survived by her loving husband and friend of almost 55 years, Ron Romes; daughter, Kimberly Wells (Paul); grandson Jake Galinari (Brooke Strickland); sisters: Leno Lovo (Jim), Beverly O’Connell (Larry), Sue Buckner, and Jamie Bryan (Tim); along with many nieces, nephews, family members and dear friends: Brenda Israel, Jackie Schuler, Amy Beck, Cassie Forrester, Deb Koch, Mary Jo List and Amy Quinn Dye who will miss her dearly.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 10272 US-42, Union, KY 41091. Reception will immediately follow at Linnemann Event Center, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Kay’s love for animals, memorial contributions are suggested to FairyTails Pet Adoptions, 6049 Lexington Rd., Winchester, KY 40391.

Beautiful Soul
I met Kay nearly 36 years ago. She was a beautiful, friendly, funny, and loving person inside and out. The world was so much better for having her. My prayers to all of you.
