Condolences

Marie B. Salazar (nee Blau), age 84, of Hebron, KY passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY on Monday, August 2, 2021.  In the hope of helping others, Marie donated her body to the Department of Anatomy, UC College of Medicine.  Marie was a dedicated wife and mother who loved her family immensely.  She will be dearly missed by her cherished extended family – spread throughout the United States, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.  She is survived by her children, Joseph A. Salazar (Linda), Maria G. Salazar (Hermelindo), Julie A. Barnawi (Adam), and Jenny L. MacDonald (David); daughter-in-law Joyce Salazar, 22 cherished grandchildren as well as 21 great-grandchildren; siblings Martha Blau-Baranec, Elizabeth Combs, and Margaret Blau-Anderson.  Preceded in death by parents Nicholas and Elizabeth Blau, husband Vicente R. (Vince) Salazar, son Vincent N. Salazar, infant sons Paul C and Peter J Salazar.  Marie practiced nursing before marrying and on into her early years of marriage. She later joined various quilt groups and was elected president (1990-1992) of the National Quilting Association, helping to establish the third Saturday of March as National Quilting Day.  Marie was an active member of St. Timothy Church in Union, KY.  Her faith was an integral part of her life. She was involved in bringing the statue of Our Lady of Fatima to the region on several occasions.  A Celebration of Life Mass for both Marie and Vince will take place at 12pm, August 28 at St. Benedict’s Church in Covington, KY.  Services for Vince were delayed due to COVID travel restrictions in 2020.  Memorial contributions in Marie’s name should be directed to the Passionist Nuns Monastery (1151 Donaldson Hwy, Erlanger, KY 41018-1000).  Online condolences can be made at www.Linnemannfuneralhomes.com

I was so sorry to hear about Marie’s passing. She was a friend, both through quilting and her Blau ancesters searches with my sister, Ruth Blau. She was a wonderful lady. I know she will be missed
