Tributes
Ruth L. Fitzgerald, 93, of Florence (formerly of Covington), beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood, on January 4, 2016. Our mother was known as a caring, thoughtful, determined person. She was widowed in 1957 and nurtured three children, providing each with a strong role model, a loving home and a Catholic education. She was an avid reader and in her later years enjoyed traveling. She worked at various occupations over the decades in support of her family, ending at age 90 with her colleagues at Remax Affiliates in Florence. For many decades she was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church in Covington and benefited from close friendships there. Ruth was born on August 5, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Hugo and Ruth (Delaney) Hamberger and stepfather John Dennis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Fitzgerald, and the many aunts and uncles of the Delaney family. Survivors include son Timothy L. (Valeeta) Fitzgerald; daughters Kathleen A. (Richard) Roark and Janet L. (Douglas) Allgeier; and grandchildren Marc Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Brian Fitzgerald and Laura (“Katie”) Fitzgerald. Other survivors include special friends Leanette (David) Bockweg and Margaret Meyers. Visitation 8:30 a.m.-9:45 a.m. January 11 at St. John Church, Covington, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John Church, 625 Pike St., Covington 41011; St. Elizabeth Healthcare Hospice (tree-planting program), 483 South Loop Drive, Edgewood 41017. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is assisting the family.
