Ruth Zumbiel

Obituary
Condolences

Ruth Wiegel Zumbiel, 93, formerly of Edgewood, KY, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Florence, KY, surrounded by her family. Ruth was born in Covington and grew up in Erlanger. She was working for the Cincinnati Stock Exchange when she married Bill Zumbiel in 1948 and together, they raised their family in Edgewood. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, politics, reading, and occasional trips to the casino. She bowled regularly into her senior years and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Reds. Ruth’s main interest and source of pride, however, was her family. After her husband’s death in 2000, Ruth lived at Atria Highland Crossing in Ft. Wright, and then at Colonial Heights and Gardens in Florence, where she enjoyed an active senior lifestyle with good fellowship and caring staff. As her health began to decline, her daughter Debbie and son-in-law, Gerry, welcomed her into their home, where their attention and care enhanced and extended her life in a loving home environment. Ruth was preceded in death by Bill, her beloved husband and best friend of 52 years; her parents, Harry and Bernadine Wiegel; her sisters, Mary Louise Kruse and Dot Iker; and her infant brother, Buddy Wiegel. She is survived by her children: Bill (Rose) Zumbiel of Edgewood, Nancy (Tom) Goeke of Edgewood, Bonnie (Dave) Cherry of Loveland, OH, Jim (Manny) Zumbiel of San Diego, CA, and Debbie (Gerry) King of Florence. She also leaves behind her brother, Bob (Marge) Wiegel of Atlanta, GA; her 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Saturday January 2, 2016 from 9:00AM-10:30AM at Linnemann Funeral Homes in Erlanger. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11:00AM at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Erlanger. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family at St. Mary Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice in care of St. Elizabeth Foundation 1 Medical Village Dr. Edgewood, KY 41017 or Mary Queen of Heaven Church 1150 Donaldson Hwy. Erlanger, KY 41018. Online condolences to: www.linnemannfuneralhomes.com.
