Tributes
William Earl Thomas (Bill) age 71, of Union, KY, formerly of Knoxville, passed away Monday,
Dec. 17 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was of the Baptist religion, the son of the late William
Earl and Evelyn Davis Thomas. He was born and raised in Knoxville where he graduated from Fulton
High School and the University of Tennessee. He received his Master’s degree from Tennessee Tech.
Bill retired from Knox County Schools where he was a teacher and later administrator serving at Karns
Middle, Sunnyview Elementary, and Gresham Middle. He also loved coaching and led the Powell Lady
Panthers softball team to a state championship in l989.
After his retirement Bill moved to the Cincinnati area to be close to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Blake Thomas of Nashville, Elizabeth and Patrick Nolan of
Florence, KY, grandchildren Nicholas, Sydney and Jack Nolan, sister Janie Thomas Carter of Atlanta,
nephews Matt and Katie Morgan, Carter and Timothy of Atlanta, Alan Morgan and wife Claire Boetticher
of Houston, TX, aunt and uncle Stella and Ralph Hickman of Knoxville, and several cousins.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. followed by the funeral service at Linnemann Funeral Home
in Burlington, KY on Friday, December 21. Memorials may be made to Cancer Family Care, 2421 Auburn
Ave., Cincinnati, OH, 45219.
